Three Defendants Sentenced to State Prison in Separate Monroe County Cases
Judges cite probation violations and domestic assault in recent rulings
Three defendants in separate Monroe County criminal cases were sentenced to state prison over the past week, including a Stock Island man who threatened his brother with a knife and two defendants whose probation was revoked after new arrests.
David Jean was adjudicated guilty after entering an open plea of no contest to domestic aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. County Court Judge Mark Wilson sentenced Jean to 24 months in the Florida Department of Corrections followed by three years of probation. The court also imposed $1,165 in fines and costs.
As part of the sentence, the court ordered that Jean’s probation will terminate upon his removal from the United States if deportation occurs during the supervision period.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office investigation, deputies responded July 20, 2025, to a domestic disturbance on Stock Island. Authorities said Jean threatened his brother while holding a butcher’s knife and making stabbing motions, telling him he would kill him and set his home on fire. The victim retreated into a vehicle and called 911. Jean fled on a bicycle before deputies arrived. The knife was later recovered as evidence. Assistant State Attorney Madeline Thompson prosecuted the case.
In Plantation Key, Jessenia Bianca Gonzalez was sentenced to 28 months in state prison after pleading guilty to violating drug offender probation. Circuit Court Judge James Morgan revoked her probation and imposed a sentence above the guidelines minimum.
Gonzalez had previously been sentenced to 364 days in the Monroe County Jail followed by 36 months of drug offender probation after pleading guilty to sale of cocaine. Prosecutors said she violated multiple conditions of supervision and was arrested in Miami-Dade County on new charges after fleeing from a traffic stop at high speed and crashing. Authorities said she later admitted she fled because she was a habitual traffic offender and acknowledged possessing narcotics. She pleaded guilty to the Miami-Dade charges before admitting the violation in Monroe County. Assistant State Attorney Trey Evans prosecuted the case.
In a third case, Michael George Harvey II was sentenced to 36 months in state prison following a violation of probation tied to earlier fraud and identity theft convictions. Judge Morgan presided over the proceedings and revoked Harvey’s probation after he admitted to violations.
Harvey had been placed on felony probation in September 2024 after serving 18 months in prison. While under supervision, he was arrested in Miami-Dade County during a traffic stop and charged with possession of a controlled substance, transportation of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of identification, resisting an officer without violence and driving without a valid driver’s license. Court records also show he failed to comply with financial obligations, including supervision costs and other court-ordered payments. Evans prosecuted the case.
State Attorney Dennis W. Ward’s office announced the sentences this week.
