
Just about the only real sports coverage you will find in Above the Fold concerns the University of Florida, my alma mater — and what a night it was in Gainesville.
Although I am considering adding the Bocce results. That is a serious thing, and when I first started at The Key West Citizen as assistant Sports Editor, if we didn’t have them in the paper, we got phone calls. Lots of them.
The Gators opened the season by dismantling Florida Atlantic 66-21 in Jon Sumrall’s debut, playing with an energy, confidence and entirely different attitude than they displayed during the final years of the Billy Napier era.
Come to think of it, the transformation looked a little like the one on display at the most recent Key West City Commission meeting: new leadership, renewed purpose and the unmistakable sense that keeping your head down and accepting the status quo is no longer the game plan.
