Thanksgiving Reflections from Above the Fold
A sincere note of gratitude to the readers who make independent, community-focused journalism possible.
As Thanksgiving arrives in Key West, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to the people who make Above the Fold possible: you, the subscribers and supporters who value clear reporting, public transparency, and accountability in our community.
Independent journalism is only as strong as the people who stand behind it. This year, you did far more than subscribe. You showed up. You read, you shared, you asked questions, you pushed for answers, and you made it clear that honest reporting still matters — and not just in Key West.
Because of your support, Above the Fold has been able to provide consistent, detailed coverage of City Hall, local boards and commissions, public records, investigations, and the issues that impact daily life in the Southernmost City. From major breaking news to long public meetings to deep-dive stories that required weeks of work, your commitment made each piece possible.
At a time when community journalism is shrinking nationwide, Key West has shown the opposite. You’ve demonstrated that a small, dedicated readership can sustain meaningful reporting — the kind that helps residents stay informed, strengthens civic participation, and holds public institutions to their highest obligations.
For that, I am deeply thankful.
This holiday, as we gather and get ready to sitdown for dinner with family and friends, I hope you know how much your support means to me personally and to the future of Above the Fold. Our mission remains the same: to deliver clear, accurate, independent coverage of the community we share.
I also want to thank those in the community that have gone out of their way to make sure those less fortunate are able to share a good, honest meal with their families. Whether it is cooking for them or helping donations to the various pantries, thank you.
It truly does take an island, and One Human Family.
And thank you for believing in this work.
Thank you for valuing the truth.
And thank you for allowing Above the Fold to serve Key West with purpose and integrity.
Wishing you a warm, peaceful, and meaningful Thanksgiving.
