Today is the day.
April 23, 2025 marks the first publication of Above the Fold, and I would like to thank you all.
Three Key West Employees Indicted
The Key West City Commission will meet in a special session on Monday, April 21 at 5 p.m. The meeting will be televised.
After more than 30 years in the news business — from Solares Hill to The Miami Herald, Florida Today and the Key West Citizen — it’s been deeply rewarding to put that experience and institutional knowledge of Monroe County to work in a way that serves the public directly and without compromise.
To those of you who are paid subscribers: thank you. Your support makes this work possible and allows me to keep showing up, digging deeper, and telling the stories that matter.
If you’re reading this as a free subscriber, I hope you’ll consider joining. Support from readers is what allows Above the Fold to expand coverage, pursue more in-depth reporting, and stay independent.
And if you’ve got a story idea, a tip, or something you think deserves a closer look — don’t hesitate to reach out. Some of the best reporting starts with a simple nudge in the right direction.
As a small thank-you:
• Current annual subscribers will have access to paid content including recurring features on events and people that shaped the Florida Keys and Monroe County.
• Monthly subscribers can upgrade to an annual plan for $60 over the next 23 days.
• Free subscribers can take advantage of a $6/month offer during that same window.
Thanks again for being here — whether from day one or just recently. There’s more ahead.
Here’s to the next year.
— Ted
