Reach for Greatness To Host “Reach for the Stars” Fundraiser Feb. 28
Event will support scholarships for Florida Keys high school students pursuing pre-college opportunities

CONTRIBUTED — The Reach for Greatness Scholarship Fund will host its annual “Reach for the Stars” fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 1106 Georgia St., raising money for Florida Keys students seeking academic and leadership opportunities before college.
The event is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. and will feature cocktails, a silent auction and live music from Zero Turbulence, a band composed entirely of local high school students. Brief remarks and a raffle will begin at 6 p.m. Monroe County Schools Superintendent Ed Tierney is slated to speak about the importance of supporting student ambition and enrichment before college.
Founded by Key West student Violet Jangraw, Reach for Greatness is dedicated to helping incoming freshmen through rising seniors access summer programs, leadership initiatives and other academic experiences. In its first year, the organization raised more than $24,000 and directed more than 95% of funds to student scholarships.
The group aims to distribute $65,000 in scholarships across Monroe County in 2026. Awards have supported programs at institutions including Northeastern University, Cornell University and Columbia University, as well as national leadership and career-focused initiatives, organizers said.
The Feb. 28 fundraiser is sponsored by Mutiny Island Vodka. Community members, families and educators are encouraged to attend.
Applications for Summer 2026 scholarships are due April 15, with awards to be announced May 15. More information, RSVP details and donation options are available at www.reachforgreatness.org.
