Losing someone is hard enough.
Families shouldn’t have to pay hundreds of dollars just to tell their community that someone they loved has died, then pay even more to include a photograph or a few additional lines.
Above the Fold is going to do something different.
Beginning this Sunday, we will publish obituaries for Key West and Florida Keys residents free of charge.
Your obituary will reach nearly 2,000 people in Key West, the Florida Keys and around the world.
All I ask, is that if you are not already a subscriber, please sign up. Like the listings, it is free.
No word-count charge.
No charge for photographs.
No paywall for family and friends trying to read it.
Send us the information you would like included, along with photographs, and we’ll publish the obituary on Above the Fold.
You’ll receive a link to the obituary that can be shared with family, friends and the community, whether they live across the street or across the country.
What to send
Please include:
• The person’s full name and age
• Date of death
• Key West or Florida Keys connection
• Biographical information and anything you would like people to remember about them
• Surviving family members, if you wish to include them
• Funeral, memorial or celebration-of-life information
• One or more photographs
• The name and contact information of the person submitting the obituary so we can verify it
Deadline: 9 a.m. Friday.
Obituaries will be published every Sunday after the Morning Bucci.
There is no catch and no charge.
Grief is difficult enough without turning a family’s loss into a revenue stream.
Above the Fold believes telling the stories of the people who made the Florida Keys home is part of covering this community.
And those stories deserve to be told.
More local news. More often.
