Now ALL of the Asphalt is Under Attack
In a not-so-thinly veiled maneuver, Tallahassee goes after ALL pavement art in Florida at the behest of a lame duck Governor.

While the citizens of Key West — in particular the LFBTQ+ community — have been sold out by all of their local elected officials save one, Tallahassee has expanded its war on woke to not just include rainbow crosswalks, but just about every other type of asphalt art you can imagine.
As a recap, over the weekend, District II commissioner Sam Kaufman requested an emergency meeting of the City Commission to come up with a plan for fighting Tallahassee’s war on woke and the Pride crosswalk prior to the FDOT‘S draconian Sept. 3 deadline.
NOT A SINGLE COMMISSIONER has raised their hand to help.
Not Monica Haskell.
Not Mary Lou Hoover.
Not our openly gay former police chief, now commissioner Donie Lee.
And not our Mayor, who vowed early on to fight, fight, fight.
But now, it just seems like they have all rolled over, except for Kaufman.
I hope voters remember this in the next election cycle.
It is an absolutely disgusting example of elected officials not being able to read their constituents.
And it’s why the time for city-wide elections have come.
Candidates should have to run for — and represent — everybody in the Island City.
Not just their neighborhoods.
It will be interesting to see where the next step in the evolution of Ron DeSantis’ culture war goes.
Because now he isn’t just targeting LGBTQ+ sidewalks in Key West and Orlando.
Now, he is attacking NASCAR’s France family, and making them paint over the checkered flags on the crosswalks adjacent to the home of the Daytona 500. You remember that… where Dear Leader actually did pace laps with the Secret Service in the Presidential Limo, the Beast.
And he is attacking 18 more pavement art projects in Orlando, as well as a host of them in the Tampa-St. Pete area, including one that shows community backing for law enforcement.
Key West’s City Commission should hang there heads in shame.
And the voters in Key West should remember in the future, who was actually willing to fight.
As far as I am concerned, there is only one. And he should be the next Mayor of the Southernmost City.
It’s about more than a chunk of sidewalk.
It is about community pride.
What’s next? The archway to Bahama Village? What else can they get rid of?
Absolutely pathetic.
And absolutely no way to govern.
One human family?
Good luck.
