There really isn’t one as far as I can tell. As Commissioner Kaufman and several other speakers said, it just doesn’t make financial sense. The deal on the airport hawk missed site already happened, and the county is on the hook for a lot of money if they don’t follow through with the committment to build a rec field in exchange for it. But I don’t see any rationale reason for it — and haven’t heard one in the 30 years I have been covering Key West.
