The final budget meeting begins at 5:05 p.m. at City Hall, 1300 White St.
The proposed final budget totals $333,263,334, an increase of $1,877,774 from the $331,385,560 tentative budget commissioners approved Sept. 10.
Commissioners also will consider final adoption of a property tax rate of 1.8848 mills, equal to the rolled-back rate. That amounts to about $1.88 for every $1,000 of taxable property value.
The spending plan is just under one-third of a billion dollars for a city with an estimated 24,999 residents as of July 1, 2025, and 5.6 square miles of land, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. That works out to approximately $13,331 per resident and $59.5 million per square mile.
Those figures illustrate the scale of the overall city budget rather than individual tax bills or direct spending on each resident. The $333.3 million figure is an all-funds budget, covering the general fund and numerous other accounts, including sewer, stormwater, solid waste, transit, Key West Bight, Garrison Bight marina, affordable housing, capital projects and insurance.
The commission still faces questions over transit funding and service levels as they consider final adoption of the spending plan.
In addition, commissioners will consider a resolution seeking an amicable separation between the city and embattled manager Brian Barroso.
Commissioners unanimously approved the tentative budget and advanced the rollback tax rate at the Sept. 10 hearing. The final budget hearing begins at 5:05 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, in the commission chambers at City Hall, 1300 White St. and will be streamed live on the city’s website.
