Help Us Take the Next Step — Subscribe, Like, and Show Up On YouTube
Above the Fold is taking the next step in its mission to show up where the record matters — expanding into live video coverage on YouTube — and we want you with us.

Starting Thursday (hopefully jury selection is finished) Above the Fold will *live-stream the jury trial of alleged Conchtown shooter Lloyd Preston Brewer on our YouTube channel, in partnership with Conch 5 Studios at Key West High School.
We will also be posting frequent recaps throughout the trial.
Check out some of their fantastic work on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.
Prosecutors allege Brewer shot and killed 21-year-old Garrett Hughes in the rear parking lot of Conchtown Liquor & Lounge late in the morning on Feb. 13, 2023, the day after Super Bowl Sunday, after observing Hughes urinating on a building — a case that has shaken Key West and raised hard questions about violence, accountability, and justice in the Southernmost City.
This project brings together independent local journalism and student-driven media, giving the public direct, unfiltered access to a consequential criminal trial while offering real-world courtroom experience to the next generation of journalists.
Here’s how you can support the work:
Head straight to YouTube and subscribe and mash the like button so you don’t miss live trial coverage, updates, and archived proceedings: AND IT IS FREE!
Cameras, connectivity, court access, production, and time all add up.
Expanding into YouTube is a deliberate step toward greater transparency, broader access, and real-time accountability — and it only works if people show up with us.
Whether you subscribe on Substack, on YouTube, or both, your support helps keep journalism in the Southernmost City independent and present when it matters most.
If you believe the public deserves to see justice unfold — not filtered, not summarized, not buried — this is how you help make that happen.
