A scooter crash during this year’s Fantasy Fest sent one woman to the Lower Keys Medical Center with leg injuries — but more than a week later, the Key West Police Department has yet to release a single report identifying the driver or either victim.
Despite repeated follow-ups and formal records requests, KWPD has not provided any documentation of the crash — including a police report, names, or citations. No charges were filed, and no citations were issued in connection with the incident.
The collision occurred near Duval Street during one of the festival’s busiest nights, when heavy traffic and rental scooters crowded the downtown corridor. Witnesses said a rented scooter carrying two riders struck another vehicle, injuring the female passenger, who was treated and transported by ambulance to Lower Keys Medical Center.
When first contacted, KWPD Public Information Officer Alyson Crean downplayed the crash, writing: “It was an accident. They happen all the time.”
The department’s lack of transparency has frustrated residents and raised questions about accountability during one of the island’s largest public events.
