Providing free rides for one or two people at a time was always a terrible use of public funds. There are many more critical things being cut in the budget (e.g., funding for Womankind, which provides critical health services for women in the lower keys).
They weren’t free in Key West. They charged the same amount as a bus fare, and often had cars full. A much better use of resources than driving giant, planet-warming Gillig buses all over town with two people on them. Key West Rides is a good service, but totally different than this. Imagine how many of those cars you could buy for what one of those diesel buses cost?
