BREAKING: State Rests in Conchtown Shooter Case
Defense expected to move for dismissal after lunch break, then present its case.

Prosecutors for the Monroe County State Attorney’s Office rested their case against Lloyd Preston Brewer shortly after noon Tuesday in his murder trial stemming from the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Garrett Hughes.
The defense is expected to move for a judgment of acquittal, a procedural step that is mandatory in criminal trials but rarely granted. The motion is widely expected to be denied.
If the court rejects the request, Brewer’s defense team is expected to begin presenting its case following the lunch recess, with proceedings scheduled to resume at approximately 1:40 p.m.
It remains unclear whether the defense will call any witnesses. Lead defense attorney Jerry Bolloratto has previously indicated he expects to rest shortly after the State, potentially limiting the defense presentation.
If the defense rests Tuesday afternoon, a charging conference is expected to be held Wednesday morning, after which the case would be submitted to the jury for deliberations.
Live coverage of the trial continues beginning at 1:40 p.m. on YouTube and Facebook.
