KEY WEST, Fla. — A sailboat struck power lines near Garrison Bight shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday, sending electrical lines into the water and prompting authorities to temporarily block boat access to the area.
KEYS Energy Services took to social media Saturday afternoon to alert the public to the incident, saying no injuries were reported and no customers lost power.
According to the utility, the damaged lines are part of a redundant electrical feed, allowing service to continue despite the strike.
KEYS crews were mobilizing Saturday afternoon to remove the downed lines from the water and secure the area.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission was blocking boat access to Garrison Bight while crews worked to clear the scene.
Boaters were advised to stay out of the area until authorities reopen the Bight.
