BREAKING NEWS: State Responsible for Removing Pride Crosswalks
Commission’s earlier resolution left city with no appeal option.

Above the Fold has confirmed that the Florida Department of Transportation is responsible for removing the rainbow-colored Pride crosswalks at the intersection of Duval and Petronia streets early morning hours Tuesday.
In a text message chain obtained from a member of city staff close to the situation, who asked not to be identified, City Manager Brian Barroso informed key employees — and apparently at least some commissioners — of FDOT’s action at approximately 3:40 a.m.
It is unclear when Barroso knew about the removal.
About seven minutes later, following the City Manager’s text, Key West police officers were seen standing guard over the area, refusing to directly answer onlookers’ questions about who had carried out the removal.
City of Key West and Key West Police Department spokesperson Alyson Crean confirmed that FDOT had removed the crosswalks in a one-sentence statement:
“FDOT removed them after a final order was issued.”
This is an evolving story. Watch this space.

Why are we waisting tax payers money paying for police to stand around guarding it?
Not quite true…because there was supposed to be 30 days to contest… Very underhanded.
