BREAKING: New Political Action Committee Forms to Clean House at Key West City Hall
Nonpartisan “Clean Slate” PAC aims to restore integrity and competence ahead of 2026 elections.
Citing years of “corruption, collusion, and failed leadership,” a new political action committee — A Clean Slate for Key West PAC — has officially launched to back a reform slate in the 2026 City Commission elections, pledging to restore “integrity and competence” to City Hall.
The nonpartisan PAC, chaired by longtime resident and community organizer Jeffrey Siegel, says it will support candidates committed to ethical leadership, transparency, and public accountability — not “backroom deals or political favoritism.”
“You are what your record says you are,” Siegel said. “And the record of this Commission majority and City Manager’s Office is one of indictments, suppression, retaliation, and mismanagement. We believe Key West deserves better.”
A Record of Corruption and Dysfunction
In its launch statement, A Clean Slate for Key West pointed to a string of recent scandals under current city leadership, including:
Three department heads indicted on multiple felony counts
Grand Jury recommendations urging resignations of sitting officials
Suppressed whistleblower complaints and ignored professional reports
Coordinated firings via text, bypassing Sunshine Law transparency
Toxic workplace conditions driving out qualified staff
Ignored science-based water monitoring amid worsening environmental decline

Ethics Over Politics
Siegel emphasized that the PAC’s support will not be based on specific policy stances, but rather on candidates’ records of honesty and competence.
“We’ve had enough dirty politics and corrupt officials helping friends and donors,” he said. “It’s time for a clean slate. We need a Commission that listens, learns, and leads with integrity.”
The committee describes itself as proudly nonpartisan, with members including Republicans, Democrats, and Independents united by a shared goal of ethical reform and responsible local governance.
Engaging Voters for Change
Beyond candidate support, A Clean Slate for Key West plans to help residents take part in the democratic process by providing tools for voter registration, vote-by-mail requests, and local election education.
“Many voters have felt powerless in the face of dysfunction,” Siegel said. “But nothing is further from the truth. The system made you feel like your voice didn’t matter. We’re here to prove it does.”
