Regardless of which candidate someone supports, voters deserve transparency and accountability in our local elections.

Independent political committees have the legal right to participate in campaigns, BUT when negative text campaigns are funded by outside donors, the public has every right to ask who is paying for them, what their interests are, and why they are involved in a local mayoral race.

I appreciate that Commissioner Sam Kaufman publicly distanced himself from these negative tactics. I would also welcome hearing from every candidate regarding their position on independent expenditures and whether they support or reject campaigns that rely on anonymous or third-party attacks.

At the end of the day, elections should be about ideas, qualifications, and a vision for Key West—not about shadow campaigns and negative messaging. An informed electorate deserves openness, honesty, and respect from everyone involved.

This is exactly where it’s at!

I think this is all you can do when you’re on the wrong side of EVERY issue facing residents. She’s never going to address cruise ships, water quality testing, raising taxes last year, accepting financial risk with Higgs Beach, Astroturf’ing all grass in public areas, giving HTA parts of Mallory Square for 10 years, and on and on and on. And I didn’t even get to the social issues like 287(g), rainbow crosswalks, and writing a letter opposing anti-DEI initiatives. There are some 30 issues and she’s on the wrong side of every one. She even voted FOR the horrible Casa Marina expansion which was one of the few losses she saw mostly because it was such a horrible plan for residents. All she can do is point out lies and mis-truths about Kaufman.

The only people voting for her are family, friends, businesses able to “buy” her votes, and people who don’t know what’s really going on. How sad for us if she somehow eeks out a win…
