Department of War requested input from interested parties merely hours after informing the City of Key West that it’s long-term lease was being terminated.
He originally broached the topic in the April CC meeting, and promised an update at the May meeting, but the item was pulled from the Agenda.
Then, the Navy, one day before the meeting sent them the termination.
Based on what commissioners said based on their agenda prep meetings, the Navy decision appeared to come as a surprise. But then again in Key West who knows what is going on behind the scenes.
Walsh signs a lease, cruise ships pay him dockage fees, Swift gets subcontract to shuffle the all-you-can eat and drink passengers to his trinket shops, while the city taxpayers fix Walsh's current lease location.
Correct, although they are moving forward with Sigsbee for additional base housing, which will theoretically ease the pressure on inventory for workforce housing.
How about you do a poll about how many businesses and locals the Live outside key west but ALL WORK IN DOWNTOWN KEY WEST if they want cruise ships?? The #1 killer of our reefs is Cars then planes...Boats are #3 and we are not stopping how many fury boats our fishing charters ....we definitely are not limiting how many cars we let into the island
..lol..I live in key west..own a business in key west and can tell you the only people who don't care if we get more cruise ships are the bars and restaurants and the tourist traps on duval street !! P.s those that wanna talk sht about mark walsh..his property is pristine..he gives housing to his at risk employees and offered the city of key west 2$ a person that gets off the cruise ships at pier B. Thats millions of dollars and the city of KW said NO!! So maybe we should have another vote about the cruise ships but extend it to Summerland key or let people who have a paycheck from key west vote!!

Yet they are not seeking proposals to maximize underutilized space on Sigsbee or Boca Chica that could provide much-needed housing…

Did Brian Borroso initiate the cancelation of the contract?
