BREAKING: Key West to Outline Process for Filling District 5 Vacancy
Candidate urges neutral caretaker as city sets rules for appointment; meeting will stream live.
The Key West City Commission will hold a special meeting at 2 p.m. Monday to establish the procedure for appointing an interim District 5 commissioner following the death of Mary Lou Hoover.
A resolution released Friday sets a Nov. 28 application deadline for eligible residents and outlines the Dec. 2 nomination process, where commissioners may nominate one or more candidates.
Outside City Counsel Mayanne Downs will not attend Monday’s session; Assistant Chief City Attorney Kendal Harden will advise in her place.
District 5 candidate Chris Massicotte has said that he would recuse himself from consideration if opposing candidate did the same, arguing that no candidate should gain an incumbency advantage ahead of next year’s election.
The meeting will be streamed live on the city’s website.
