BREAKING: Key West calls special meeting after death of Commissioner Mary Lou Hoover
Commissioners could appoint a temporary replacement until the 2026 elections.
The City of Key West has scheduled a special City Commission meeting for Monday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at City Hall, 1300 White Street, following the death of District V Commissioner Mary Lou Hoover.
Under the City Charter, the commission must act on the vacancy within 15 days of a seat becoming open. While the agenda for Monday’s meeting has not yet been released, commissioners could choose to appoint a temporary replacement to serve until the next election or could opt for a special election.
If an appointment is made, the new commissioner would be eligible to vote at the next regularly scheduled meeting, set for Tuesday, Dec. 2, with the morning session beginning at 9 a.m.
City officials are expected to release additional details as Monday’s meeting approaches.
