BREAKING: Immigrant Groups Call for Two-Day Work Strike, Protest in Key West
Organizers cite enforcement concerns; events planned near federal offices.
Community organizers are calling for a two-day work strike and solidarity protest later this week in response to what they describe as increased immigration enforcement activity affecting Key West residents.
A statement released Monday by the Key West Immigrant Support Network urges members of the local immigrant community and supporters to participate in a peaceful work stoppage Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27–28, along with morning demonstrations outside the federal Homeland Security building at 2000 N. Roosevelt Blvd.
Organizers said the actions are intended to highlight the economic and social impact of recent enforcement operations and to call attention to the role immigrant workers play in the island’s workforce. The group is encouraging participants to refrain from work and routine activities during the two-day period and to gather from 8 a.m. to noon each day for a solidarity protest.
In the statement, organizers said that since mid-2025, hundreds of members of the local immigrant community have been detained or taken into custody by federal immigration authorities. Those claims could not be independently verified Monday.
The planned demonstrations are described by organizers as peaceful and lawful, with calls for community members, business owners and faith leaders to show support and recognize the contributions of immigrant families in Key West.
Federal immigration agencies and local officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the planned strike or the enforcement claims outlined in the release.

It is what they sent me.
